Signature Cupping at The HVN
What is Signature Cupping?
Cupping is one of the oldest and most respected techniques in Traditional Chinese Medicine – a therapy that works not by adding something to the body, but by creating the conditions for it to heal itself.
At The HVN, Susan Gu, who leads our Traditional Chinese Medicine team, delivers Signature Cupping using specialised cups placed on the skin to create a precise vacuum. This gentle suction draws the skin and underlying tissues upward, stimulating the flow of Qi, improving blood circulation, releasing muscular tension, and activating the body’s innate capacity for natural healing.
Where most therapies apply pressure downward, cupping works in the opposite direction – lifting and decompressing the tissue layers beneath, reaching areas of stagnation and restriction that conventional massage and treatment often cannot access.
HOW IT WORKS
Ancient Technique. Precise Application.
Susan Gu begins each session with an assessment of your presenting concerns, whether that is localised pain, muscular tension, fatigue, or systemic stagnation, before applying cups to the most therapeutically relevant points along the body’s meridian pathways and areas of concern.
The result is a treatment that feels deeply releasing, profoundly restorative, and often immediately effective.
Each session includes a 15-minute consultation followed by 15 minutes of cupping.
What your session may include:
Dry Cupping: Specialised cups applied to the skin using controlled suction to decompress the underlying tissues, stimulate Qi flow, and draw stagnation and tension to the surface for release.
Meridian-Informed Placement: Cups are positioned with precision, informed by Susan Gu’s clinical assessment of your TCM pattern and presenting symptoms, not placed generically.
Targeted Muscle & Fascia Release: The vacuum effect reaches deep into the muscular and fascial layers, releasing chronic tension and improving mobility in ways that direct pressure cannot replicate.
Circulatory Stimulation: Cupping draws fresh blood flow into areas of stagnation, supporting tissue recovery, reducing inflammation, and promoting the body’s natural healing processes.
Safety & Suitability
Signature Cupping is safe for most individuals and suitable for a wide range of conditions. Temporary marks on the skin, a natural result of the suction drawing stagnation to the surface, are normal and typically resolve within a few days. Susan Gu will conduct a brief assessment prior to treatment to ensure cupping is appropriate for your needs.
Expected Results
Many clients notice an immediate reduction in muscular tension and a profound sense of release following their first session. For chronic or systemic conditions, regular sessions deliver cumulative improvements in circulation, mobility, and overall wellbeing.
